Drive-It-Day
Yesterday’s Vehicles Supporting Today’s Children. National Drive It Day was created by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs in 2005. It is the occasion when historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public at large have the opportunity to celebrate the One Thousand Mile Trial organised in 1900 to prove the viability of the new invention, the motor vehicle. It’s also a chance to raise awareness and support amongst the public for the historic vehicle movement and keeping transport heritage on UK roads.
Rally plates are available to support Childline.
North/Central Devon Run. Devon Sevens Event
Nick Hawkins is organising a run starting from Whiddon Down Services EX20 2QT, which is just off the A30 and easily accessible from all parts of Devon. You can arrive as early as you like and there is a Café on site for coffee/breakfast. The plan is to leave the Service area at 11 am passing through South Zeal and stopping at Finch Foundry in Sticklepath. The route will continue to Belstone for a lunch stop. Either bring a picnic or eat at The Belstone Inn’s outdoor grill over looking the open moorland. A drive on to the old A30 and through Okehampton will complete the day.
Members from the North of the County can meet at Bishops Tawton lay-by to leave at 8.30 with a stop at Dolton Beacon Garage at 9.15 to meet anyone else who would like to travel in company.
Members who are coming from other areas and who may wish to travel in groups rather than individually can contact Nick and he will put you in touch with other members who are attending. In any event, please phone Nick to confirm if you are attending.

East Devon Run – Morris Register.
Some East Devon & Somerset A7 Club members have been enjoying the company of the local Morris Register owners on their runs over the past year and we have been invited to join them on their Drive-it-Day outing.
The arrangements are being organised by Philip Armour and the plan is to meet at Amy’s Cafe at EX24 6QQ in Colyford at 11 am followed by a short drive to the Honey Farm at EX24 6JF. There will be a short stop here for a drink or snack and in case anyone wishes to join the run from further afield. The route then continues to Sidmouth, driving along the sea front to have the cars on show in the public car park. Everyone will then be free to find somewhere for lunch and disperse at their leisure.
It will be helpful if anyone planning to go can let Philip know on his phone number above or by emailing David Palmer so that numbers for the car park can be arranged.

July
Powderham Historic Vehicle Gathering
Club EventOne of the major events this year will be our Club stand at the Historic Vehicle Gathering at Powderham Castle, Kenton near Exeter.
The club will once again pay entry fees for DA7C members who display their cars on our Stand. You can exhibit on one or both days and cars can be left on the stand overnight on Saturday or driven to and from the venue. Space is also available for trailer parking.
The show is organised by the Crash Box & Classic Car Club of Devon Ltd, and is widely recognised as one of the very best in the country. It offers a huge range of attractions and displays for all members of the family. Have a look at their website www.historic-vehicle-gathering.info ,it really is a great day out.
July may seem a long way in the future, but with the amount of planning necessary for an event of this size, entries need to be in early and the latest date for reserving a space on our stand is Friday 31st May, so please don’t delay.
An entry form has been sent with the Club newsletter and should be filled in and sent as soon as possible.

RHS Rosemoor Vintage and Classic Weekend
We are, once again, invited to this year’s Vintage Weekend at RHS Garden Rosemoor .
Now in its 14th year the weekend has proved a very popular event with Vintage Vehicles, Motorcycles, Tractors, Caravans and Steam Engines. In 2023, the event attracted over 2400 visitors a day making it one of the biggest events of their calendar and their biggest show since its creation twelve years ago.
The event will be located at the Arboretum Lawn on Lady Anne’s side of the garden, which will gives a beautiful backdrop to the vehicles on display. We will issue you with more details about getting on and off site closer to the time.
There is a small café and toilets available at this side of the garden, and it is a couple of minutes’ walk to the visitors building where the main restaurant is located. There will also be a food and beverages area closer to the vehicle displays following on from feedback received from exhibitors and visitors.
It is a free to enter event for vehicles, and provides entry to all of Rosemoor Garden for you and a guest. There will be a exhibitor’s pop up beverages tent, where there will be free teas and coffees and separate portable toilets will be available just for exhibitors.
Onsite are provided for overnight stays for those of you that have caravans, vans or mobile homes. There will be a professional security person on site for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you wish to stay onsite on the Friday, Saturday and (or) Sunday, please remember to state it on the vehicle entry form. There are no shower facilities but there is a toilet block you are welcome to use. You will be issued with an overnight pass and given instructions on where you are able to pitch up your vehicle.
As the event is hosted inside of the garden, it is the RHS policy of strictly no dogs, unless they are registered assistance dogs.
Note from Organisers
After some confusion last year with people arriving after 10am and wanting to leave before 4pm, please could I ask that you are happy to exhibit between these hours. We really need to ensure all of you are safe, motorists using the main road are safe and also that our visitors are safe.
Please let Nick Borst-Smith know the days you have entered to enable enough space to be reserved for the Club and mark your Entry Form “Devon Sevens”
